I'm a Survivor!

Yes, I'm a survivor of the President's Healthcare Challenge Charity run. And we signed up for the 8km route.

I'm like damn proud of myself. People who know me should know that I have tiny lungs and running 8km a major feat (think XH who is going to run 42km)!

It was no easy task. 1 hour of non-stop running caused me to have painful knees and joints for 2 whole days. Imagine what it would be like to run 42km...

I must say I felt very proud of myself at the end of the run. I think my thighs shrank by 5cm in diameter! Haha!

I shall make running my weekly routine now, at least it helps to keep my thunder thighs in shape!

Supposed to go for this 8-km run on Sunday, but because my jogging partner fell sick *ahem*, we decided to opt for the shorter route, to just run 2km... Its not that we don't wanna run more k... People sick then shouldn't push her too much right? =P

Apparently I was one of the top students for analytical chemistry back in year 2. Haha! It was a pleasant surprise =)

I know... You must be thinking that "liyan" may not be me right? Jey Searn, Hsin Hui & Jiang Bin are my classmates too! =P So that person must be me! Okay, cheap thrill.

Into week 2 of my research rotation. Everything is progressing smoothly, or so I hope. Work here follows the same procedure almost everyday - read, type, watch ads, lunch, read, type, watch ads... How exciting...

Anywho... I made 4 pairs of earrings over the weekend, one for Jo, one for Pheebs and two for myself. Jo & another colleague say I should sell my jewellery online. Hmmm, will anyone buy the stuff I make? Will U?

Secret - Jay Chou


Managed to catch this movie today, quite enjoyed watching it. This is a love story, and in my view, a tragic one. I must say Taiwanese actors have a way of engaging the audience, I really felt for the female lead in this movie and I do feel like falling in love at the end of it!

I think Jay Chou's acting has improved in this movie, although still alot of those "expressionless" faces, but I think its quite suitable for his role in this movie (hurhur). This is also his directorial and script writing debut and I thought he did a pretty good job of it. I liked the development of the plot. Even Kong who was initially quite skeptical about the whole movie thought that the plot was pretty intriguing. So kudos to Jay for coming up with this interesting plot.

Because of the complexity of this plot, I found that there was quite a bit of inconsistencies throughout the whole movie. In order not to be a spoiler, those who are REALLY interested in knowing what I felt the inconsistencies were, we can discuss this over dinner. But, I must say some parts were intricately linked as well, so its good. To sum it up, I thought this movie was worth watching. Those who have not watched it, I think its worth your 2 hours of precious time! (And no, I'm not publicizing for my favourite singer! =P)

Oh btw, the piano pieces that they played in the movie was good too! So was the ending song! Haha!

National Day!

The organization I'm at had a mini celebration at work yesterday. It was quite fun, heh.. Most of the people came in red and white, the colours that represent the country.

After the last time when I chopped off my locks, my hair has been outrageously messy. All the curls were curling in the wrong direction, and I can never let down my hair... at all... 'cept when I sleep... So, I've decided to straighten it! Haha! Yes, after I spend so much money curling it. I'm a spendthrift, I admit... =(

End of Clinicals

Woohoo! Clinical placement has finally come to an end. Kinda sad to leave on the last day, but I'm glad its over. No more stress, no more sleepless nights, no more waking up at 6am in the morning!

Come to think of it, I really learned so much from this placement, all the theories put into practice, communicating with patients, colleagues, other health professionals. Its a wonderful experience. At the last few weeks, I really felt like part of the N&D team at TTSH, so it makes the whole working experience so fun and entertaining. Haha, all the bitching and gossiping sessions during lunch, all the laughter and giggles. Hee hee...

Anyway I managed to take some pictures with my colleagues. Missed out a few coz they went up to the wards before I catch them.

My Happening Week!

End of week 9 of placement, feeling happy & sad at the same time. Happy because the stress is finally going to be over in another 5 working days and the end of the toughest placement of the year. Sad because... some of you know & I shan't spell it out loud.

This week was killer week at work. I had to get 5 "satisfactory" counseling forms to pass the placement. Thankfully I managed to collect all 5 by Friday. The last hurdle is on Monday, when my lecturers from Australia will be at work to observe me and assess my counseling skills according to the Aussie standards. Hopefully everything will work out alright. I also had a case study presentation last week, didn't perform quite well for that, so gotta re-do it again this coming week. Oh well, at least I've survived most of the "torture" this week. Last 5 days of hard work and I can book air tix to go back Adelaide at the end of the year for the graduation ceremony!!

I think this week is one of the most happening week for me. For once on a weekday night, I went out to hang out with friends! It was Huiling's birthday on Thurs night, so my JC classmates had a lil' gathering at Mind Cafe together with her. It felt good to hang out with the hwa chong peeps again, playing silly games and having all the cheena-fied conversations. haha! No offense peeps! I still love all of you and the chinese talk! Btw, welcome back Nicolas!

Friday night was my buddy's sister's wedding. I think its my first time seeing Kong in a suit. He looks real smart in that! The wedding dinner was held at Shang-ri-la, the last time I was there was during my JC prom night. Brought back a lot of memories! Those were the days, thanks to gaothebao for reminding us all that we're J8 this year.

After the wedding dinner, we headed off to Zouk and hung out at the Winebar. I haven't been to Zouk since like... 2005 when I left for Australia?! Haha.. reminded me of the days when I was 20 and "chionging" till 4am. Oh, bumped into gaothebao at Zouk last night. For once he didn't say I'm boring! haha! Well, we stayed there till 3am and I didn't get to sleep till 4am. I woke up at 3pm today and I feel like all my bones are falling apart. I feel soooo old. sobs.

Will upload some pictures that we took last night, once I get hold of them from gaothebao! Okay, still feeling sleepy... I think I need 24 hours of sleep to make up for the late night up. Urgh!

Wednesday Fever

I don't know why, somehow on every Wednesday, I'll get a headache and sometimes a fever.

My mid-week syndrome.

Anywho... I cut my hair yesterday (like AGAIN...) Yes, my crowning glory was getting too thick and too long to handle. But I find that its a bit too short now. I remember telling the hairdresser that I want to cut the length "a little bit" shorter. Somehow his definition of "little bit" equals 5 inches. Like WTF?! My once long pony tail looks like a rabbit's tail now. Short & stubby. Stupid hairdressers.

Not sure if I've posted these pictures before, its from my farewell dinner earlier this May, at Sato, my favourite Japanese restaurant in Adelaide...

End of Week 7

This week has been a really tough week, as mentioned in an earlier post, its assessment week. Thanks to all who have been helping me and supporting me, I managed to pass this assessment. So one more to go and I can pass this "toughest" rotation.

Kudos to those in Adelaide who already finished this monstrous rotation. I think you all deserve a pat on the back for all your hard work!

So basically, this weekend is indulgence weekend for me, Friday evening I had Jap food with Karen & Dean at this place called something like Sun & Moon by the River? (something like that lah) The food was not bad, the ambience too, just that we felt it was a little too warm to sit outside by the river. heh...

Saturday was also spent enjoying myself! Went shopping with Ah Hu, Gao & EJ. But then EJ had to drag me to this XX organization's one-year anniversary dinner. Wasn't the best way to spend my Saturday afternoon, really. Those people were a little too into the thing they were doing, it felt like they have no life, but they are actually so proud of themselves. To sum it up, it was really a boring event. *GLARES AT EJ for dragging me there, you owe me one dood*

Let me tell you more about the things I bought, very happy with what I got today. Heh...

- 1 pair of (work) shoes
- 1 black pant (for work also)
- 1 green chiffon polka dotted skirt (unplanned buy)
- 1 four-leaf clover and 1 silver bracelet to match it
- 1 clinique lippy for my mommy

and... I trimmed my brows too! Yay, no more messy, sleepy look when I go to work =)

So overall, Liyan is a happy girl!

Its week 7 of placement this week. Meaning its assessment week. Meaning ultra stressed because I have to be in top form to pass the assessment.

Which means? More stress... And more pimples, and more pimples. Which means I have to take my pimple meds more frequently. Which means? Cracked lips. Urgh...

End of Wk 5 placement

Yay, weekend again!

Today marks the end of Week 5 of my clinical placement. Its been a depressing week really. Somehow I havent been performing up to standard and its really disappointing. On a positive note, I was able to identify my own weaknesses and find ways to improve on them. But there are some things which I know I havent been doing well and until week 5, I'm still not doing it well. I hate it when I have to repeat things to people, so I try not to let people repeat things to me. I understand how frustrating it can be for the other person, but now I'm guilty of that too. Very often I find that my supervisor has to keep repeating the advice to me over and over again because they just dont seem to be registering. Sad...

One of my solutions for this lousy week is to have a good rest, and go back to work on Monday fully recharged and ready to fire. So I started off Friday night with Dex & Kong for dinner & movie.

We caught this movie "Deathproof" which Dex said was highly recommended by his friend. I wonder if his friend was playing a trick on him or something cos' I thought that movie was absolutely crap. The initial part of the movie was grossly vivid (especially a part on a car crash where the girl's leg flew off the body) while the second part of the plot was simply silly. Kong said his 3 year old cousin could have written the plot! That's how simple and predictable the plot was.... Anyway... the only good thing about the movie was perhaps the stunning chicks. They employed many pretty girls for the cast, which made the movie looked kinda sleazy at the beginning. So much for a good start to the weekend huh! But I shall not complain too much since I didn't have to pay for the tickets! haha! Thanks Kong.........

Updates!

Updates, updates...

I've become too lazy to update this blog. Hur hur... You see, everyday after I come back from work, I'll be soooo tired that I can only find the energy to eat, watch tv then sleep. So, please bear with me for the next 6 weeks!

I've been trying add this "twitter" program to my blog, but it seems that blogger is having some problem with the google adsense thingy, so I can't seem to update my template at all! This is really annoying!

Now, back to my placement update... Heh, feeling very random today. Anywayz... For those who remember, there are 3 stages to my placement, I need to pass all 3 in order to pass the placement. This week was assessment week, & thankfully, I passed stage 1. Yay! Stage 2 assessment is 3 weeks from now. Which means I have to up my standard/performance within 3 weeks. Stressed! To all out there, please pray for me! :P

Nothing much to blog about because I practically spent this weekend at home, resting... (old ppl need to rest more! hurhur)
